And my race pack has arrived, at last !. I’m feeling calmer than, uptill now. Maybe because I have a clearer idea of what is happening on the day. I’m still hoping to get a timed ‘run’. But will not worry if I have to take a bit longer to finish the course.
I walked (but according to my pedometer, ran :-). ) just over a mile at an average speed of 6.2 mph, today. This makes completing the half marathon in under 3.5 hours (the roads open after this time limit. And so getting my time electronically recorded for completion of this event, needs to be done before the roads open again) seem achievable :-). And there are still 6 or so weeks before the half marathon ! :-).
It seems that there are uphill and downhill slopes along the route of the half marathon. Some gentle. But there is one steep downhill, in the middle ish of the route. And a steep uphill climb to the finish. So I’m planning to do the first mile or so, at a gentle pace. Then do the next 11 miles at a minimum of an average speed of 6 mph. And so leaving plenty of time to climb up the hill, at the end, to complete the half marathon within the 3.5 hours.
I’m training to run for a few fund raising events. One of which is the Run to the Beat (half marathon) event, taking place in London on 08/09/13, in support of the NSPCC. Running is one of the ways that help me come to terms with trauma of the abuse from my childhood. i’ll explain how in later posts. This blog will in part, document how the training is going. And also record my weight loss (hopefully) over the coming months. In that I’ll post my weight on a weekly basis. I’m hoping to get to 9 or 10 stone, eventually.
